Eating It Up in Eden: the Oregon Century Farm & Ranch Cookbook
This collection of nearly a hundred favorite Oregon farm and ranch recipes ranges from Velma Hiatt Laughlin’s Pickled Beets, to Swedish Flatbread from the Nyberg family, to Aunt Gretchen’s Chewie Dewies. It also includes advice on how to catch wild ducks and how to roast hazelnuts (many Oregonians still call them filberts). The book is filled with anecdotes and photographs from the contributors, and includes a short history of Oregon agriculture and a listing, by county, of the more than a thousand farms and ranches that have been marked by the program since 1958.
Eating It Up in Eden won PubWest’s national gold award in 2010 for best book cover in the cookbook category; the book designer was Susan Bard, who deserves kudos for the superb cover design, layout, color selection, and typography.
